You can probably just adjust that belt, assuming it’s an M36 belt, it can actually pass until you get an M56 belt. Took the flap off and added a drawstring with a clip. I've got m56 as I couldn't find the ALICE suspenders, and I've had a hard time finding good historical pictures of cold war equipment loads.
